Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Massage Therapy MLD is a style of massage therapy that uses a range of specialised rhythmic pumping techniques designed to stimulate the flow of lymph. It is the lymphatic system that collects and eliminates excess body fluids and wastes from the body. It also plays an important role in our immunity by helping us to fight infections and disease. This system is found primarily in the superficial layers of the skin and as a result, MLD utilizes a very light, featherlike touch which makes it a very gentle and relaxing massage.
MLD is unlike any other form of massage for several reasons: - Becuse of its light touch and specialised techniques, it is a guaranteed PAIN FREE treatment.
- MLD can be used immediately after an operation or injury to help ease the pain and reduce scarring. It also speeds recovery by helping the lymph system to rid the body of debris and wastes that accumulate in the injured area.
- It is particularly beneficial for chronic disorders such as bronchitis, arthritis, MS, chronic fatigue syndrome and Parkinson's Disease.
- You may not see or feel any immediate effects. Most clients start to feel the effects of the treatment after a few hours. The only immediate effects you may feel is a deep sense of relaxation due to the soothing nature of the treatment.
- It does not require the use of a lubricant such as an oil or a cream.
MLD has many benefits including relaxation, and improving the condition of the skin. It can also be used to treat a wide range of conditions like toxin build up and fluid retention, constipation and other digestive disorders, recurring infections like colds or flu, stress and anxiety. Your initial treatment will be approximately 40-50 mins with a full consultation beforehand to determine the correct treatment for your needs. Unlike most other massage types, the majority of a lymph drainage massage is done on the front of the body as this is where most of the lymph nodes are found. The parts of the body and the sequence of the massage will be discussed before proceeding so you know exactly what to expect during the treatment. Subsequent treatments will be discussed with you, in accordance to your specific needs. We suggest that a course of treatments be considered for you to get the maximum benefits from them. Remember that prevention is better than cure, so regular treatments will help keep you in peak condition.
